Drive-in Theaters…try and say it without smiling. Even if you have never been to one, you know what they are. Visions of sock-hops and hotrods… true Americana. At their peak close to 5000 screens were available, now only 800. Victims of cable TV, VCRs and rising property values (a typical drive-in requires 8 acres of land). They catered to families and included play and dining areas.
Today, they offer nostalgia and represent a bargain usually charging around $6 per person and kids under 12 are free. You might also benefit from the elusive Double Feature, which is now unheard of at regular theaters. 2 movies for the price of one… remember that? An entire evening of entertainment for cheap! The car speaker hanging on the window is now replaced with an FM or AM broadcast. Tune your radio to a pre-determined station and your car is enveloped in sound.
Make it a family night out or a night to make-out!
