Festival of Human Abilities

Join the Aquarium of the Pacific for its fifth annual Festival of Human Abilities, a celebration highlighting the creative talents and abilities of people with disabilities. Wheelchair dance, live music, signing choirs, art demonstrations, storytelling, service dog demonstrations, and other creative performances will be featured by people who have disabilities. Sign language interpreters will be present at all major presentations and an audio tour is available for those who are blind.

African Heritage Festival

Join the Aquarium of the Pacific as it hosts its sixth annual African Heritage Festival, celebrating the richness and diversity of African and African American cultures. The weekend will feature live entertainment, arts and crafts, ethnic food, and more. Featured are interactive drum circles, West African dance, live jazz, storytelling, community award ceremonies, and a host of other activities.

Sustainable Seafood Day

The Aquarium of the Pacific invites the public to learn how to help our oceans one bite at a time at its fourth annual Sustainable Seafood Day. Learn all about cooking environmentally friendly seafood dishes and how your seafood consumption choices can help save our seas. Enjoy seafood tastings in the Aquarium’s Great Hall, watch as local chefs do sustainable seafood cooking demonstrations, take home recipes, and visit booths by organizations that promote sustainable seafood practices. Complete sustainable seafood meals will be available for purchase in the Aquarium’s Café Scuba.

The Aquarium of the Pacific’s fifth annual Ocean Tech Day will demonstrate the tools that have enhanced our understanding of and relationship to the ocean. Explore high-tech innovations and gadgets through interactive displays and special presentations, including underwater remote operated vehicles (ROVs), and learn about the Aquarium’s high tech veterinary and life support technology.

Divers Day

Learn all about the history and recent advancements in diving at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s seventh annual Divers Day. The Aquarium will feature displays of both vintage and modern gear, educational presentations, live dive demonstrations, and more. The Aquarium will also host a large range of organizations that are related to the sport and science of diving. The diving community is invited to find out about volunteer diving and other opportunities for involvement with dive-related organizations in Southern California. Divers who present valid proof of certification with their photo I.D. will receive free admission.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Join the fiesta at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s sixth annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Families will enjoy a special day of traditional music, dance, and ethnic food honoring the rich culture of our Mexican communities. Enjoy live entertainment, including folkloric and Mexican regional dance troupes, underwater presentations in Spanish by the Aquarium's divers, mariachi and other traditional and modern Mexican music. Often confused with Mexico’s Independence Day, the holiday of Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory over the French army at The Battle of Puebla in 1862. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the courage of the Mexican people during this famous battle.

Pacific Islander Festival

Discover the rich and diverse cultures of the Pacific Islands through traditional craft demonstrations, ethnic cuisine, educational programs, storytelling, and an ocean of entertainment, including music and dance performances. Watch hula performances, listen to Tahitian drumming, try out ancient Hawai’ian games, enjoy island cuisine, and admire artisans as they create traditional weavings. The Pacific Islander Festival will feature various cultures, including Hawaiian, Marshallese, Chamorro, Tahitian, Samoan and Maori.

Ocean Conservation Awards Gala /
Aquarium of the Pacific's 10 Year Anniversary kick off
6:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m.

Kick off the Aquarium of the Pacific’s 10 Year Anniversary Celebration at the Ocean Conservation Awards Gala. This black-tie event honors the outstanding achievements of individuals and institutions that have greatly contributed to environmental conservation efforts. The evening features a special awards program, a cocktail reception, full-course gourmet dinner, live musical entertainment, after-hours coffee bar and lounge, and more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy the Aquarium of the Pacific’s exhibits at night.

Baja Splash Cultural Festival

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month and Mexican Independence Day, the Aquarium of the Pacific will host its seventh annual Baja Splash Cultural Festival featuring live entertainment, crafts, educational programs, ethnic entrees, and much more. The Aquarium’s weekend festival will celebrate the beauty and diversity of Hispanic cultures through song, dance, art, and cultural displays. Mariachi music, Mexican folkloric and Aztec dance troupes, interactive mural painting, Guatemalan marimba music, Salvadoran dance, and other special programs will be featured. Guests can also learn more about the amazing animals of Baja, Mexico and how they can help protect them.

The Aquarium of the Pacific will open its doors for free to seniors ages 50 and above on this special day. Special exhibits for seniors will include booth displays by the Aquarium’s volunteer services, education, and animal husbandry departments.

Moompetam: Native American Festival

In celebration of our local Native American cultures, the Aquarium of the Pacific will host its third annual Moompetam Festival, Gathering of the Salt Water People. This weekend celebration will feature traditional cultural crafts, storytelling and other educational programs, and live demonstrations, including music and dance celebrating the indigenous California Indian maritime cultures, including Ajachemen, Chumash, Costanoan, Luiseno, and Tongva peoples.

Sea Fare: dine with the fish, and bid on exciting auction items
6:30-10:30 p.m.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is pleased to host its fifth annual Sea Fare, an evening of dining, live music, silent and live auctions, and more. Guests will kick off the night with an open bar, live music, will dine with the fish while sampling diverse cuisines from local restaurants and food and beverage companies, and will have the opportunity to bid on a range of unique live and silent auction items. Proceeds will lend a helping fin to the nonprofit Aquarium’s ocean conservation education efforts.
Cost: $125 per person, which includes an open bar and diverse samplings of food provided by some of the areas finest restaurants.

Autumn Festival

Delve into the arts, cuisines, cultures, and marine environments of Asia during the Aquarium of the Pacific’s seventh annual Autumn Festival. The Autumn Festival highlights the traditions and cultures of Japan, China, Korea, and the Philippines through a weekend of learning opportunities and family entertainment, celebrating the richness and diversity of Asian and Asian American cultures. The festival will feature traditional crafts, music, dance, demonstrations, cultural arts exhibits, artisans and other exhibitors displaying and selling their works, food, storytelling, and much more. Move to the sounds of taiko drumming, watch dancers, acrobats, and martial arts demonstrations. Try your hand at origami, and purchase hand-made crafts. The Autumn Festival is a joint project of the Aquarium of the Pacific and RYOMA.

Holiday Treats for the Animals
9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

In celebration of the holiday season, Scuba Santa will be delivering an ocean of gifts to the Aquarium of the Pacific’s sea otters, seals, sea lions, birds, fish, and other animals. Guests can see Scuba Santa dive with sharks and watch the Aquarium’s animals receive their special treats and enrichment gifts during the Holiday Treats for the Animals weekend. Families can enjoy holiday music, crafts, special presentations, unique photo opportunities, shopping, and more. The Seal and Sea Lion Habitat will be decked out for the “sea”son with frozen “fishmas” treats. Guests can watch the sea otters savor candy cane-shaped ice treats, gourmet lobster tails, and their very own snowman. Throughout the day Aquarium staff will give special gift delicacies to other marine animals as well.
