Boating in Naples
Long Beach, California

There’s no shortage of great outdoor weather and lots to do in Southern California... This time we were in search of a different, yet relaxing something to do on a Sunday, so we headed over to Long Beach, California for a day of boating through the canals of Naples.

Ah, yes… relaxing. Out on the water, looking at beautiful houses and beaches from a shaded boat with music playing, an icy cooler, and a picnic table conveniently located in the center. This is the kind of excursion that rates well for all ages.

The boats are electric, so they’re quiet. There’s plenty of room inside and they seat up to nine people, so it’s no problem to bring the whole family. The sides of the boat roll up and down, so it’s your choice of wind or no wind on this ride.

If you’re the designated driver, be aware there are buoys located throughout the waters that you need to stay to the right of, just like you’re driving a car. Also remember, kayaks, smaller vessels, and anyone coming from the left has the right of way… so don’t run them over! (For a quick boating safety lesson, visit the US Coast Guard link below.)

Some of the inner canals that go through the houses are a little narrow, so before you go into those, practice a bit in the more open waters to make sure you have a good feel for how the boat maneuvers.

So pack your picnic, grab your favorite CDs, and go enjoy your afternoon boating!
