Vasquez Rocks was named after the outlaw, Tiburcio Vasquez, who used the caves as a hideout. Before he was hanged in 1875, Vasquez claimed to have hidden his loot in a hole in the rocks, but never told any more… There are picnic areas at Vasquez Rocks as well as camping, equestrian programs, a junior ranger program, horseback riding, and lots of places to hike. It’s a great family afternoon adventure. On your visit you may see coyotes, gophers, jack rabbits, snakes, and lizards. Vasquez Rocks is open all year long, but in the summer it can get REALLY hot so be prepared! |
