| Now that the warm summer
is upon us, and our gardens are flourishing, we find that not only flowers,
but weeds are flourishing too. If we don’t keep up with cleaning out
the weeds, there won’t be flowers. So, what's the best way to eliminate
weeds? Here are a few tips on how to keep up with having our flowers grow and not the other way around. The best time to weed is after the rain has softened the earth and one can get out there and just pull out those creeping creatures. If you haven’t had rain for a while, soak the soil with your garden hose. The best weed tool I have found is the pronged, long handled weeder that is used to get out the dandelions. You can just insert it at the foot of the weed and yank. Most long, pointed tools will do the job too. For the creeping kind of weed, the best tool is your gloved hand. Grab a bunch and pull, then if you haven’t gotten it by the root; use your long handled pointed tool. |

After you have cleaned out most of the weeds, it is a good idea to purchase “PREEM”, which you sprinkle on the ground around your flowers. This helps keep down the weeds so the next time you need to eliminate weeds it’s not such a job. - Nana |
